Sheriff Dan Butts and challenger Josh Teitge are headed for a runoff.
In the March 5 Primary Election, Teitge pulled in 2,389 votes, while Butts received 1,897 votes, receiving 42.67 percent and 33.88 percent of the votes, respectively. Because neither reached 51 percent, both candidates will face off on Tuesday, May 28.
Of 18,515 registered voters, with 10 of 10 precincts reporting, 6,294 ballots were counted, representing 33.99 percent of Bandera County residents eligible to vote.
Local victors of the primary contested races include Troy Konvicka for Pct. 1 county commissioner, who received 708 votes to Michael Devine’s 566; Greg Spengler for Pct. 2 county constable, who received 871 votes to James Popham’s 328; Shirley Grohman for Pct. 2 Republican Party chair, who received 298 votes to Laura Neely’s 205; and Mark Miller for Republican Party chair, who received 3,499 votes to Conrad Striegl’s 1,419.
Tuesday’s closest race was county tax assessor/collector. Rebekah Dolphus received 2,578 votes to Andrea Jankoski’s 2,545. In January, after Dolphus’ sudden resignation as tax assessor/collector, county commissioners appointed Jankoski to fill the unexpired term.
“We are in the process of getting a legal opinion,” Bandera County Judge Richard Evans said. “Right now, everything is status quo. [Jankoski] is the tax assessor/collector. We appointed her because [Dolphus] resigned.”
The Prophet has been unable to reach Dolphus for comment.
