Pipe Creek & Lakehills news
By Vicki L. George
Greetings, neighbors!
The Lakehills Area Library has a summer reading program for the kiddos. This year the theme is “A Universe of Stories” and it is not too late to join the fun. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 19 and the youngsters will make balloon rockets. Go by the library at 7200 FM 1283 to sign up and to pick up the reading logs. For more information, call 830-510-2777.
The Lakehills library has a Chess Club that meets every Monday, in the library, from 1-3 p.m. All ages are welcome and everything is provided.
The Lakehills Writers Group will meet in the Lakehills library on Thursday, June 20, at 2 p.m. It is open to adults who write or aspire to write, to share, critique, and to encourage.
Alamo Resource Conservation & Development, a non-profit serving Bandera County, has a “Keep It Cool” fan program. They will freely give fans to senior county residents in need on June 28, noon to 3 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle, 7789 FM 1283. They are asking for donations of 20-inch box fans, or money to purchase fans. Call 210-548-9248.
Technically not news in Lakehills or Pipe Creek, the Silver Sage Center serves all of Bandera County. As such, I am pleased to announce they are holding a 35th Anniversary Open House and Reception Fundraiser on Saturday, June 22, at their location, 803 Buck Creek, Bandera, starting at 2 p.m. For more information, call 830-796-4969.

This joint VBS will be followed Saturday, July 13, with a “Fun Farm Fair,” to which the public is invited. For more information on the VBS and the Fair, call 830-751-2404.
On Monday, June 17, our Medina Lake level was 1063.92 feet. That is down 0.28 feet, which is 99.3 per cent capacity.

TRIVIA TIDBITS
America had no national anthem for much of her history, although the words were written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 and the poem was put to music by John Stafford Smith using the tune of the popular British drinking song, “To Anacreon in Heaven.” It became so popular it was recognized by the Navy in 1889 and by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. It was finally made our national anthem in 1931 by a congressional resolution, which was signed by President Herbert Hoover.
