Lakehills parade a big hit
By Vicki L. George
American Legion Post 410, of Lakehills, celebrated Independence Day with their annual parade. The parade drew about 30 entries, in addition to the fire trucks from Pipe Creek, Lakehills and Mico. With their lights flashing, sirens blasting and the candy that was thrown out, the crowds of children along the way were eager and excited.
The Parade Marshall was Ruth Tschirhart, who was driven by Miguel Muñiz in a black Mustang convertible. Tschirhart has been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary since its inception in 1968. She said she was honored to have been asked.
The Legion awarded trophies in five categories again this year. Most Patriotic went to Ron Bird in his 1947 Army Jeep. The Medina Lake Betterment Association’s Cajun Festival float won Showmanship. Most Original went to Trevor Morgan in a cute little dune buggy. Bruce Koehn was awarded Most Patriotic Vehicle with his blue truck bedecked in red and white ribbons. The Youth trophy went to Rick McCraken in his little red coupe.
After the parade, the River City Wranglers entertained a lively crowd at the Legion Hall on 26th Street in Lakehills, while attendees enjoyed the music, dancing and the delicious barbecue prepared by the veterans.
