Summer fun continues

LAKEHILLS LIBRARY
The Lakehills library continues “A Universe of Stories” for the kiddos. The next meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 a.m., and the kiddos will learn all about the moon and its phases. They will create a special moon craft. 
At the library’s monthly Book Sale on Saturday, Aug. 3, published author Janalynn Knight will be available to discuss publishing and self-publishing. She will have some of her Western Romance novels to sign. 
The Chess Club is still meeting every Monday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All ages welcome.

​LAKEHILLS CIVIC CENTER
The Civic Center, 11225 PR 37, is holding their 50th Anniversary Dance on Saturday, Aug. 3. The music is from the 50s, 60s and 70s; and the band is live. It is BYOB and bring your own snacks; costumes encouraged. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Call 830-751-9904 or 830-751-2727. 
The Civic Center is also hosting a Back to School Bash on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sponsored by Hill Country Samaritans and BISD, come to get information on educational resources, haircuts, dental checks and more. Many other vendors will also be on site. 

CHRISTIAN WOMENS JOB CORPS
The Job Corps is accepting applications now for their next class session, to begin Sept. 3. Pick up applications at Bandera Library, Helping Hand, or First Baptist Church Bandera. Deadline is Aug. 15. For more information, call 830-326-1457 or email CWJCBC@yahoo.com. 

PIPE CREEK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
The school is enrolling now for the new school year, beginning Aug. 19. Call 830-510-6131 or go by 1990 FM 1283. 

AMERICAN LEGION
The American Legion Post 410, 147 26th St., Lakehills, is selling tickets for the drawing at their Centennial Celebration Dinner on Saturday, September 14, in the Legion Hall, one ticket for $10 and three tickets for $25. Winners do not need to be present to win. 
First Prize is a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, valued at $2,000; Second Prize is an American Legion Centennial Coin Set, valued at $525; and Third Prize is a MasterCard Gift Card worth $250. 
The Legion Post 410 is open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3-9 p.m., when they serve meals and provide entertainment for all ages. For information, call 830-751-3711. 

LAKE AND RIVER
On Thursday, July 31, our Medina Lake level was 1063.15 feet. That is down 1.05 feet, which is 97.6 percent capacity. 
The Medina River had a flow of 36.9 cfs in Bandera, running 3.93 feet deep at the gage.
