Surrounded by a host of fans and supporters, Texas Governor Greg Abbott was the guest of honor last Friday evening at the Flying L Ranch Resort in Bandera. The governor, along with Senator Dawn Buckingham and State Representative Andrew Murr, was invited by the Bandera and Kerr County Republican Clubs to attend the Stars at Night Gala.
Multiple Bandera County elected officials were also honored guests, including Pct. 4 Commissioner Jordan “Jody” Rutherford, County District Attorney Janna Lindig, Pct. 1 Commissioner Bruce Eliker, Pct. 3 Commissioner Jack Moseley, Pct. 1 Constable Phillip Tobin, Pct. 2 Constable Ernie Reich, Pct. 3 Constable Don Walters and Sheriff Dan Butts.
After a catered dinner with more than 170 people, the governor delivered an intimate speech, during which he invited everyone in attendance to pull up a chair and get a little closer. Abbott briefly discussed the recent legislative session, and the state’s successes.
“Over the past year, and over the past decade, Texas has created more jobs than any other state in the United States of America,” Abbott said. “More Texans have jobs than ever before in this history of the state.”
Abbott described a legal battle he fought while he was attorney general to keep an eight-foot high monument of the 10 Commandments in place on the Texas Capitol grounds.
“We defended that all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Abbott said. “We won and that monument still stands today.”
“I say prayers every night,” Abbott said. “I thank God for being in my life, I thank God for my family, I thank God for our country, I thank God for blessing me to be born in the greatest state in this country.”
