Through the Grapevine

Each month new artists display their talents at the Lakehills Area Library. During August, two artists are now on exhibit. 
John Tucker has exhibited before and is a stanch supporter of the library and a member of the Alamo Area Woodcarvers Group. He is back with more of his amazing creations, all carved in different woods. He can reached at 830-535-6578 or [email protected]. 
A new exhibitor, Robert Arredondo, makes his debut with wonderful paintings, all on wood. He began working with wood while still in high school and two of his pieces won First Place at the State Fair. Some of his work is displayed at the San Antonio airport and one of his sculptures is in downtown San Antonio. He can be reached at 210-843-1143. 
The Lakehills library will finish “A Universe of Stories” for the kiddos. The final meeting is Wednesday, August 14, at 10:30 a.m., and the youngsters will learn about the planets. They will make keychains, necklaces and bracelets with a planet theme.  
The Chess Club will have their final session for the year on Monday, Aug. 12, from 1-3 p.m. 
The Genealogy Club will meet Thursday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to Noon. 
The Lakehills Writers Group will meet Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m.

ALAMO RC&D
The Senior Assistance Program will hold the first Sassy Granny Arts & Crafts Club on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the pantry barn at Faith Tabernacle, 7789 FM 1283. All supplies are provided.  
They will hold the next Senior Social, “In the Good Old Days,” Friday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Faith Tabernacle fellowship hall. Lunch is free to seniors and by donation to others. 

CHRISTIAN WOMENS JOB CORPS
The Job Corps is accepting applications now for their next class session, to begin Sept. 3. Pick up applications at Bandera Library, Helping Hand, or First Baptist Church Bandera. Deadline is Aug. 15. For more information, call 830-326-1457 or email [email protected]. 

PIPE CREEK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
The school is enrolling now for the new school year, beginning Aug. 19. Call 830-510-6131 or go by 1990 FM 1283. 

AMERICAN LEGION
American Legion Post 410 is selling tickets for the drawing at their Centennial Celebration Dinner on Saturday, September 14, in the Legion Hall, one ticket for $10 and three tickets for $25. Winners do not need to be present to win. 
First Prize is a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, valued at $2,000; Second Prize is an American Legion Centennial Coin Set, valued at $525; and Third Prize is a MasterCard Gift Card worth $250. 
The Legion Post 410 is open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3-9 p.m., when they serve meals and provide entertainment for all ages. For information, call 830-751-3711. 

LAKE AND RIVER

On Thursday, Aug. 8, our Medina Lake level was 1062.73 feet. That is down 1.47 feet, which is 96.6 per cent capacity. 
The Medina River had a flow of 28.1 cfs in Bandera, running 3.81 feet deep at the gage.
