Building for rescued dogs
Special to the Prophet
In October 2018, A Doggie 4 You began its long-standing dream to provide permanent, indoor housing for its rescue dogs while waiting for a forever home. Currently the rescued dogs are living in outdoor kennels with concrete dog houses and tarps covering the kennels. When the modular buildings are completed—both inside and out, the rescue will have the ability to house 200 dogs—or 50 additional spaces than the current capacity. From 2016 - 2018 the rescue successfully adopted out an average of 610 dogs annually.
Each of the two modular buildings will include 12 indoor dog cottages, storage rooms, grooming facilities, a feed room and an office space. All dog cottages will open up to an outdoor covered kennel. Two covered play pens with a meet and greet area for potential adopters to get to know a particular dog will be located between the two buildings. Behind the buildings is a shady area with a lot of trees where eight exercise pens will be located. In the coming weeks more work to the outside areas of the buildings, as well as the start to get electrical power to the dog compound buildings, is scheduled.
However, all of this work takes a great deal of time and money—a lot of money. The Bandera community has the opportunity to help give the rescue dogs the upgraded dog compound they deserve and need in order to remain healthy and safe. Predators—such as cougars and coyotes—are lurking in the area. A Doggie 4 You is asking for your help to complete the project sooner rather than later. The organization is seeking $30,000 to finish the outside areas of the buildings.
A Doggie 4 You is a 501 c3 nonprofit recognized by the IRS whereby all monetary donations and in-kind services are tax deductible. Every dollar is important to give the dogs the living conditions they deserve while waiting for adoption.
