The Bandera Prophet

The Oasis for Warriors is hosting the annual Run for the Heroes III at Mt. Zion Retreat Center, 888 Mountain View Lane, Pipe Creek on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The event features a 5K Run/Walk and a RUCK. Participants will sign in and pick up their packages at 8:15 a.m. and the Run/Walk and RUCK will begin at 9 a.m. The cost is $35, with active military and veterans $20, and each entrant will receive a T-shirt. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three in each age group. To enter, applicants must register online at www.oasisforwariors.com.
The Run/Walk and RUCK is sponsored by Premier Sponsors Hevenor Lumber, Warriors Heart and James Power and Electric.
This event will be held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Military Appreciation Day, sponsored by Victors Group and Aligned Mortgage. The Appreciation Day will feature live music by Smoke Wagon, a live auction and a raffle. It will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Barbecue plates will be available for a suggested donation of $10 per plate, with two complimentary plates for military families.
The live auction features a concealed gun flag case built by a special forces Alum of Warriors Heart and is valued at $500.
While raffle items are still coming in, there are several good items already. Tickets will be available for purchase at the event and winners must be present to win. The public is invited to come out and support our military and first responder heroes. All the proceeds will go to Oasis for Warriors.
Bill and Tura Wilkinson run the Oasis for Warriors at Mt. Zion. The organization is for our servicemen, women and their families, working through existing organizations. It is also for law officials and first responders of any kind.
The Oasis mission statement reads, “The Oasis is here to provide those who have been wounded while serving our country a place to heal and experience God’s presence in nature.”
While Wilkinson never served in the military, he felt called by God to use the property the Lord granted him and his decades of building experience to develop a place of quiet healing for the amazing young heroes who have been wounded while serving our country. He sees it as a place where counselors can have one-on-one counseling and group sessions, a place where our heroes can experience camaraderie, a place to enjoy campfires, moonlit nights, barbecue and music; in other words, a place of healing for body, mind and soul.
Wilkinson calls this place Oasis at Mt. Zion and it is located at 888 Mountain View Lane, Pipe Creek. It is a 501c3 non-profit corporation and donations are always welcome, For more information, call 210-373-8172 or email twilk41@gmail.com. Their website is www.oasisforwarriors.com and they can be found on Facebook.
