Rebeca Gibson announces for Bandera City Council
I hope you will join me at the poll on November 5th to elect three council members to the Bandera City Council. One ballot, three votes...I'm #9 and it is my hope to be elected to serve a third term as your representative on council.
Just a bit about me for those who don't know me personally, my daughter and I moved to Bandera in 2005 shortly there after my folks and my brother and his family joined. They now own and operate two restaurants in town. I worked for BISD for 12 years as a special education teacher (and much of that time at one or both of the family restaurants as well!). I respectfully and lovingly resigned from BISD last year and my career is now in the real estate industry as an administrative assistant for Hunt Real Estate Company while working on my sales agent license and I am a yoga instructor.
In the last four years of service as an elected official there has been much turnover in staff and council members yet many things do remain, among those is the need for your elected officials to remain faithful to the spirit of Bandera while gaining the knowledge, abilities and tools necessary to accomplish ongoing challenges. The need to collaborate with community members including residents, business owners, organization leaders, county officials and other entities is critical so that Bandera's future is guided and protected responsibly and cohesively.
I have made continuing education a priority of my tenure so that I can help connect council and staff to resources about programs and funding opportunities provided at state and federal levels on a variety of projects that affect daily living, health, quality of life and well being. Some of the sponsoring entities of education opportunities I've participated in include The University of Texas Department of Economic Development, Texas Municipal League, Alamo Area Council of Governments, Texas Water Development Board and Hill Country Alliance.
In my two terms I have served as Mayor Pro Tem for three years, also I am the council representative to the Bandera County Sister City Partnership Association and liaison to both the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District and the Hill Country Alliance.
Some of the projects I hope to assist in impacting in the upcoming term include a revitalization of the City Master Plan (this covers a large variety of critical aspects of city functions including developing a fiscal impact model for future growth, economic development, land development and codes update, infrastructure, sidewalks/accessibility and coordinating with TxDOT on the future of Main Street), continuing park projects to include handicap accessibility to the river, and seeking funding through Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Water Development Board and the General Land Office to aid us (tax payers) in the encroaching financial burden of a new waste water treatment plant.
If you have any questions or comments I am available, my email address is txbecalou@gmail.com and is posted on the city website. You can also leave a telephone message for me at city hall and I will return your call 830-796-3765.
As much as I wish to promote our city elections I feel it is important too to note that there is a documented and historical low voter turn out for the Texas Constitutional Election. I would like to encourage you to research the proposed amendments to our state constitution and let your vote be counted! One ballot, three votes...I'm #9, please remember me at the poll.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
