Life and Living at the Lakehills Area Library

Picture
Lakehills neighbors Nancy Ritchie, on the left, and Vicki Jones, center, came to the Lakehills Area Library to turn in all their old medications to Deputy Sheriff Bryan Skelly during Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. Drug Take Back Day is an annual event designed to dispose of drugs properly instead of having them end up in the environment.

Jerry Jilek is a professional photographer who is pleased to exhibit many of his works in the Lakehills Area Library during November. Jilek is a Lakehills resident. Several of his photos are available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the library.

“Martin” uses his assistant Angel Bess to demonstrate what a woman can do when someone grabs her from behind in a choke hold. One effective technique is simply to drop to the ground as dead weight, which causes the attacker to lose the hold, Once on the ground the woman can quickly turn around on one knee and she is then in a good position to do harm to her attacker and run.  Martin teaches a Women’s Self Defense Class at the Lakehills Area Library every fourth Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m. All ladies, from 16 years old and up, are welcome. The class is always free.
