Newly formed Greater Medina Lake Little League is ready to play ball
Tryouts are Feb. 1 and 5; last day to register is Feb. 5
The Greater Medina Lake Little League (formerly Lakehills/Pipe Creek Little League) is ready to start their 2020 season. The local Little League recently reorganized with an entire new volunteer leadership and board of directors for the 2020 season.
They have also added a new concession manager as well as a dedicated groundskeeping staff. Every person in the new position is a volunteer and strives to improve the local children’s community sports activities and the Little League footprint in the Hill Country.
“More than anything, I do it to enforce and improve both softball skills including basic baseballs skills such as hitting, fielding, base running, throwing and game maturity, but also and life skills such as brother and sisterhood, confidence, community, to foster a give back attitude, and sportsmanship,” Brian Smith, one of the league’s volunteer coaches, said.
“Above all, this is for the kids. The work, the challenges, all the improvement, the execution, the excitement. Watching a kid hit their first run of the game or even ever, and then turning around to the stands to make sure everyone saw it – and our spectators from the community cheering them on…that’s the payoff. That’s the home run we as volunteers are striving for. We see the growth and want it to continue. There is no way we could do this without the support of our community – including volunteers, community partners and financial support. At Greater Medina Lake Little League, we pride ourselves on our policy of never turning away any child/family because of their inability to pay and knowing there are kids out there that need this opportunity makes us all work just a little bit harder. We do offer payment plans and assistance with registration fees and yes, we are a brand new board, but we have a vision, a commitment and a plan to execute. Plus, we have great nachos in our Snack Shack concession,” new Board President Jessica Chevreaux said.
“Overall, I want to be a positive role model to the kids, something some of them really need, and to help them build confidence and to develop into better baseball players and better leaders in our community,” 2020 volunteer coach Will Anderwald said.
The League accepts boys and girls age 4-16 to play. Important dates are tryouts and uniform fitting on Feb. 1 and 5, with the last day of the 2020 registration on Feb. 5.
