Lakehills Library Leanings

By Vicki L. George

The Lakehills Area Library is putting the FUN in their annual Fundraiser Dinner and Auction. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8 in the Lakehills Civic Center, located at 11225 PR 37 in Lakehills. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Dinner tickets are available now at the library for $10 a plate. Each plate includes Gerry’s Famous Chicken Spaghetti, with salad, breadstick, and tea or coffee. Desserts, beer and wine will also be available.
The silent auction will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at which time the live auction will begin.
Part of the FUN is trying new ideas and this year the library is offering three new items, each handled in a unique way.
A beautiful 14-carat gold horse pendant necklace, with a 14-carat gold chain, and genuine diamonds has been donated by Vicki L. George. Chic Jewelry of Boerne has appraised its retail value at $600. It will be at a table and patrons may buy tickets at $20 each to play Heads or Tails. The game will take place at the beginning of the live auction. The auctioneer will have the participants stand and indicate whether they think a flipped coin will land heads or tails. The auctioneer will then flip the coin and those who did not guess correctly will sit down and be eliminated. Another flip of the coin and more people will sit; until only one person remains standing, who will win the necklace. Remember, you guys, your horse-loving sweetheart would love a quality horse necklace for Valentine’s Day.
Michael Tidwell, our famous local photographer, was commissioned to create a beautifully framed cyanotype of the Lakehills Area Library. It will have its own table and patrons will be invited to submit secret bids. The bids will be collected and the highest bidder will get the photograph at the end of the live auction. The winner does not have to be present. Each cyanotype is a unique creation and this one will hang proudly in anyone’s home or office. It, too, will make a fine Valentine’s Day gift.
In addition, another table will be set up for a company called Causes Matter. This is an exclusive travel platform which offers travel package experiences to several destinations. They work only with non-profits for fundraising. A patron may purchase a trip package and will pay up front. The library will receive a small commission from the company for each trip sold. The trips vary in price and buyers have various time limits to make the trips. Airfare is not included. The trips to be offered include: Las Vegas or Tahoe, Tuscan, a Mexican resort, Napa Valley Wine Tour, the Caribbean, and Colorado. To learn more about the company and the trips, go to causesmatter.com.
There are two amazing raffle prizes: The first is a $500 Visa gift card. Tickets are $5 each or six for $25. The second prize is a Howa Hogue Gameking Rifle/scope package in the caliber of your choice, donated by Boyles True Value in Bandera. Those tickets are $10 each or six for $50. The raffle tickets are available now in the library at 7200 FM 1283.
Artist Amanda Furr is exhibiting her paintings during January. Furr hails from San Antonio and has won many prestigious awards. Furr’s additional works can be viewed and purchased from http://fineartamerica.com.
