As positive COVID-19 cases continue to spread across the state, Bandera ISD has extended the school closure through Friday, April 3.
Superintendent Dr. Jerry Hollingsworth said Bandera ISD would coordinate with surrounding school districts to determine whether the suspension needs to be extended further.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol,” Hollingsworth wrote in a prepared press release. “This situation is one that is changing daily, and we will continue to update our families with the latest information we have.”
Governor Greg Abbott cancelled STAAR standardized testing. Also so students will not have to make up the lost days, Bandera ISD will request a waiver from the Texas Education Agency. In order to qualify for the waiver, the district is required to provide instructional support.
Bandera ISD has launched the Learning@Home distance learning site. It may be accessed by clicking https://sites.google.com/banderaisd2.net/learningathome/home.
Information for all grade levels is available, along with video tutorials, email addresses and access codes.
Elementary
For both Alkek and Hill Country Elementary students, reading and math choice boards have been created. Students are expected to complete their assignments as directed for a weekly grade.
If a paper copy is needed, a hard copy of the choice boards will be available for pick up at the breakfast and lunch pick up areas Monday and Wednesday from 8 - 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Middle School
For middle schoolers, most of the assignments are on google classroom, using the same codes they have used thus far this year.
For those unable to access google classroom, the homework may be picked up Mondays and Wednesdays at Bandera Middle School or Hill Country Elementary. The completed assignments (by taking a photo) will need to be emailed.
High School
High school students will need to sign into their Bandera ISD gmail account to access their schoolwork, which they may complete in google classroom.
Meals Provided
Bandera ISD will continue to provide meals for anyone under 19 years old. Instead of daily deliveries, however, multiple meals will be provided during a single pick-up.
Meals will be served Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Breakfast may be picked up at the Hill Country Elementary campus in the parent pickup line, or in the Bandera Middle School back parking lot, from 8 - 9 a.m., and lunch plus extra meals may be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If a student does not have access to the Internet or an electronic device, they may pick up the week’s work packet at Bandera Middle School or Hill Country Elementary at the same time meals are provided. Evening distribution is Monday and Wednesday, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at both campuses.
