Group starts Go Fund Me for county businesses

By Chris Darus
The Bandera Prophet

What do you do when there are businesses with little or no income due to little or no customers because of the CoVid-19 pandemic shutdown?
That question was answered two weeks ago when a small group got together to start the Bandera Texas Small Business Fundraiser.
Unlike the Bandera EDC, any business looking for help does not necessarily have to be within the Bandera city limits or the ETJ.
Any business inside the Bandera County line that fills out a simple one-page application will be considered a participant and will be eligible for funding.
Maggie Schumacher from the Bandera Natural History Museum and former Bandera mayor, along with Glen McComb of the Bandera General Store, were the two originators of the project. Art Crawford of the Silver Sage, Leigh McCourt from the Sugar and Spice Ranch and Larry Haddad of Studio 173 soon joined forces.
The group sent the idea out to friends and has raised over $2,000 in a short period of time, but well short of their goal of $50,000.
The amount of funding to each participant will be dependent on the amount raised, but it will be an equal amount for each business with 100 percent of the money being distributed between the participants.
"We were specifically worried about small local businesses and dude ranches. The dude ranches in particularly have a tremendous amount of overhead with the feeding and care of their livestock and they are hurting big time, especially the ones that still have a mortgage on their property and there is a lot of them," McComb said.
The Bandera General Store, located at 306 Main Street, is the hub for the project, but owners, McComb and Marcia Kabat, said that they will not receive any funding from the project.
Currently there are 14 days left in the campaign and there are two ways you can donate to help your friends and neighbors in Bandera County:
Go to Facebook and type in “Bandera Texas small Business Fundraiser” or go to McComb's Facebook page and click the link.
If you are a business, swing by the store for an application between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., seven days a week.
Return it in person or mail it to:
