After being bitten about five times by a rattlesnake, Pippa, a rescue dog with A Doggie 4 You, went home today.
She was given a 12-hour human albumin transfusion to lessen the swelling, Donna Witt, A Doggie 4 You board secretary, said.
“The vets hoped there would not be any adverse reactions since canine albumin was unavailable at this time. Pippa endured the risky transfusion procedure, but on Thursday when her blood levels dropped, she had to undergo a blood transfusion,” Witt said. “Late Friday she began eating on her own.”
Her vet bill reached nearly $20,000. Donations have helped tremendously, however she will still require follow-up treatment as she continues her recovery at the shelter, including daily trips to the vet for the next two weeks.
The rescue is running several donation campaigns to assist with Pippa's medical costs. In addition to the organization's Facebook page, waggle.org and cuddly.com are also sites where money can be donated to assist with her bill.
“Our director says there are people reaching out from England, Iceland, Australia, as well as other parts of the world regarding Pippa,” Witt said. “She has touched a lot of hearts!”
