Bandera Electric Cooperative announces 2021 Youth Programs
Applications are now open for BEC’s 2021 youth programs. BEC is committed to the education of its members and their children—the leaders of tomorrow. Each year, BEC offers scholarships to eligible high school seniors and currently enrolled postsecondary students, and sends four students to the Government-in-Action Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.
BEC will award 10 $2,500 scholarships for the 2021/2022 school year. The BEC Scholarship may be applied to a four-year university, junior college or Texas Education Agency-approved trade school as long as the student is considered full time. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 26, 2021.
BEC will also send four high school students to Washington, D.C., on a weeklong, all-expense-paid trip to experience all the nation’s capital has to offer. While in D.C. students have the opportunity to visit many of the nation’s exciting museums and memorable landmarks and meet other students from Texas and around the U.S., as well as their congressional representatives. The tour is a part of the Government-in-Action Youth Tour hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Cooperatives from across the country sponsor students from their respective service territories to attend this exciting event each year. The deadline to apply for Youth Tour is Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.
New Braunfels Area Community Foundation, an area nonprofit specializing in charitable giving and sound stewardship of funds and endowments, will manage the BEC Scholarship and Youth Tour selection process to independently identify the most deserving recipients based on financial necessity, participation in community and school activities, and an essay. Only online applications will be accepted; no paper copies or previous application forms will be accepted. Visit BanderaElectric.com/YouthPrograms to learn more, view eligibility requirements and to apply.
