The latest at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The Bandera Library is happy to announce the return of the monthly book fair this Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The book fair is run by the Friends of the Library and all the money they raise benefits the Library. Masks will be required while you are in the building. Take advantage of the beautiful weather forecast and come by the fair.
The Library Board is still recruiting for new members. You can find the application on our website www.banderacountylibrary.org or call the Library and arrange to pick one up.
Earlier this year, the Bandera Library was a recipient of a Texas Book Festival Grant. The grant was used to update and expand our collection of books on agriculture, veterinary care, gardening, and sustainable practices. All the books have officially arrived and are available for check out. If you have been interested in raising chickens or beekeeping come by and check out the wonderful new titles.
New titles out this week include The Return by Nicholas Sparks and Dreaming Death by Heather Graham. Nicholas Sparks’ new Heather Graham’s thriller follows FBI Agent Stacey Hanson. She is a member of the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters, a group of agents each gifted with unique skills that help them track down killers. Stacey Hanson’s gift is having prophetic dreams. As a newly minted member of the Krewe, Hanson’s first assignment is a serial killer plaguing Washington D.C. She is paired with veteran agent Keenan Wallace. While Wallace is not keen on taking a rookie as a partner, each agent will need to work through their differences if they hope to stop the killer. Hanson’s morbid dreams keep coming true and the clues lead to D.C.’s elite.
In Nicholas Sparks’ new novel, we find Trevor Benson, an injured Navy doctor in a dilapidated cabin his recently deceased grandfather willed him. After a mortar blast out the Afghanistan hospital left him with terrible injuries, Benson has begrudgingly returned to his hometown to recuperate. The only thing to pass the time is tending to the beehives his grandfather loved. However, Benson begins to feel a deep connection with the town’s deputy sheriff, Natalie Masterson. Despite feeling a mutual attraction, something keeps Masterson distant. Complicating things even more, a teenage girl named Callie seems to have some critical clues to the mysterious death of Benson’s grandfather.
The Bandera Library is open by appointment only and masks are required. Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checking out books, copying, faxing and printing service. Happy tales, y’all.
