In a public service announcement, the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office confirmed two wild animals last week tested positive for rabies.
On Friday, Oct. 16, a raccoon in the 2300 block of Hwy. 16 N in Bandera was caught and tested. Two days prior, a fox caught in the 200 block of Green Valley Drive in Pipe Creek tested positive for the deadly virus.
“Area residents are asked to be extremely cautious around wild animals, and to closely monitor their pets. This includes no outside feeding and no handling of any animal that has not been vaccinated against the rabies virus,” the PSA stated. “If you see any stray animal, or suspect any animal of being rabid, please contact our dispatch at 830-796-3771, or call 911 if it's an emergency.”
