The latest at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The Bandera Public Library Board of Directors continues to recruit for new board members. This is a great opportunity for any of our patrons to give back and to be a part of the library’s community. You do not have to have a professional background to take part. Any and all kinds of skills and backgrounds are welcome. Call or stop by to pick up an application.
This year, the shipment of non-partisan voter guides produced by the League of Women Voters was unable to be processed. However, the library has a digital copy that can be printed out on request and a few physical copies you can read while you are visiting the library. This includes the general election and state and local races. While the Bandera Library is not a polling place, we do have all the information you need to vote in Bandera County posted by the circulation desk.
Meeting spaces at the library will be available again starting this week. Groups of 10 people or smaller can use the downstairs meeting room and groups of five or less can book the Genealogy Room. We will still require masks while you are in the building and request folks maintain social distancing. Do not forget that the back patio is a beautiful space to reserve as well. Call to reserve a space.
The newest addition to the Nolo Legal Guides has arrived this week. “Get it Together: Organize your Records so Your Family Doesn’t Have To” is the most recent titled published by the Nolo Press. ‘Nolo’ is Latin for “I don’t choose to” and was founded by former legal aid lawyers who were tired of turning away working clients because they did not qualify for legal aid but also could not afford attorney fees. Nolo Press publishes do-it-yourself legal guides that cover a wide variety of topics. The Bandera Library has a collection of these books available in the Reference section. Topics include tax deductions for small businesses, IRAs and 401Ks, starting a business, landlord legal guides, help with social security and disability among many others. Come by and feel free to peruse them.
The Bandera Library is open by appointment and masks are required. Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checking out books, copying, faxing and printing services. Happy tales, y’all.
