Lakehills Library Leanings

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

The annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat was highly successful. The library handed out candy in a safe and socially distant manner on Oct. 31 to approximately 250 kiddos accompanied by about 500 adults. All the youngsters had amazing costumes and so did many of the adults. The event garnered rave reviews on the library’s Facebook page. The library thanks all the volunteers who graciously donated their time and talents to make it happen. They are especially grateful to the BEC for the grant money to purchase more than enough candy.
The Preschool Storytime Program is very successful. Director Dianna Landes reads to the youngsters virtually through YouTube and craft kits may be picked up by parents at the library each week. The crafts are designed to meet preschool learning requirements with an emphasis on letters, numbers, reading and writing. Parents can still register at [email protected] or call the library at 830-751-2777.
Many new release books come in each week, such as: Simon the Fiddler by Paulette Jiles, Fortune and Glory by Janet Evanovich, Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab, Shakeup by Stuart Woods, The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop by Fannie Flagg, and The Dirty South by John Connolly, and The Sentinel by Lee Child, and more.
In addition, 40 new picture books for the kids were added from a generous donation. There are new books for middle grade readers, young adults, and non-fiction lovers.
Library cards are free and will allow free access to thousands of downloadable ebooks and audio books as well as online databases full of correct and helpful information on any subject imaginable.
All services are available including books, movies, audio, printing, faxing, notary and scanning. Also, hundreds of paperback and hardcover books, and DVDs, are available for purchase.
Landes reminds patrons who are uncomfortable coming inside that all services are available at the door. The free WiFi is always available in the parking lot.
The library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masks are required, as is social distancing. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777. The email address is [email protected]. Their website is lakehillslibrary.org.
