Medina Oak Rest Cemetery and West Prong Cemetery named official locations for the 2020 National Wreaths Across America Day
Local cemeteries Medina Oak Rest Cemetery and West Prong Cemetery will join more than 1,500 participating locations across the country to Remember, Honor and Teach on Saturday, Dec. 19, at noon.
Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that, over the last 10 years, has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for us to live freely.
The goal for Site-Coordinator Alexis Crowther and the Medina ISD FCCLA Chapter was able to raise enough funds to place veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there, to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country, never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration. This year the organization received enough sponsors to fully fund both the Medina Oak Rest Cemetery and West Prong Cemetery.
The ceremony will begin at Medina’s Oak Rest Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 19, followed by the wreath-laying at both cemeteries.
