Lady Bulldogs go 2-1 for the week

Bandera High School's varsity Lady Bulldogs got in plenty of basketball this past week with three games under their belts. Kierstyn Sells, varsity head coach, fills us in on the action this week.
This week, the Lady Bulldogs played three grueling and physical games. Although it wasn't our best basketball to date, we were still able to finish the week with a 2-1 record, putting us at 7-2 for the season.

Marion
Tuesday saw Bandera's Lady Bulldogs play Marion's Lady Bulldogs and start the week with a win.
We came out strong and outscored Marion, 15-6 in the first quarter. We shot well from the three point line early, causing Marion to spread out their defense, allowing us to work the ball inside later on.
In the first quarter, Breanna Stimmell had two three-pointers and Estella Calderon had one. Liz MacNeil, Madison Leal and Summer Haby also contributed two points each in the quarter.
The second quarter saw much of the same success for Bandera on the offensive end, scoring 12 points and continuing to contain Marion with good defense, allowing them to only score nine points.
We looked for all our options offensively and passed the ball well, finding the open teammate multiple times. Because of this, there were multiple Bandera Lady Bulldogs scoring in the second, Katie Dibrell and Hannah Edwards with three points each and Stimmell, Leal and Calderon, added two points to each of their totals.
After halftime, we fell into a little slump offensively, only scoring nine points in both the third and the fourth quarters.
Stimmell continued to shoot well from the three point line with a three pointer in both the third and fourth quarters. Leal continued to score inside, totaling six points in the second half. Haby added two points in the third and Calderon hit her second three pointer of the game in the fourth quarter.
Marion tried to make a run late in the fourth, but we were able to hold them off and win the game, 45-38.

Llano
Friday saw us meet up with Llano for the second time this season. Although we struggled to get going early, good defense allowed us to hold Llano to only eight points in the first quarter.
Dibrell (3), Haby (2), and MacNeil (2)  scored in the first to keep it close at 8-7.
In the second quarter, we could not get a shot to fall and struggled to find the basket, allowing Llano to jump out to a 10 point lead at halftime, 19-9.
After some halftime adjustments, we outscored Llano in both the third and the fourth quarters, but it was just not quite enough.
The Bandera come back in the third quarter was led by Calderon. Calderon had several steals and deflections in the third along with five points, half of our points for that quarter. Leal (2) and MacNeil (3) also scored in the third.
Going into the fourth quarter, it was a different game. We were down by eight and determined to continue to chip away at Llano’s lead.
Great team defense and our highest scoring quarter of the game put us in a great position, tied with just 10 seconds left.
MacNeil led scoring in the fourth quarter with six, Edwards (3), Haby (2) and Stimmell (2) all contributed to the 13-point quarter.
Although we had battled all the way back, after a shot for the lead, Llano rebounded and threw a long pass across half court. A loose ball foul was called on us, putting them on the line with a half a second left.
They made both free throws to win the game, 34-32.

Poteet
On Saturday we traveled to Poteet and again, we got off to a slow start offensively, but were able to fall back on defense allowing us to take a lead into halftime, 10-3. Dibrell (3), Edwards (2), MacNeil (2) and Calderon (3) scored in the first half.
In the second half, we began to execute on the offensive end, allowing for more scoring in the third and fourth quarters.
Leal (4), Calderon (5), Danour (2), Stimmell (2), Samantha Kennedy (2), and MacNeil (4) scored in the second half for the Lady Bulldogs. We were able to pull away for the win, 29-17.
We are looking to finish out the next nine days strong before a well deserved break for Christmas.
This week we have another two games, both at home, Friday vs. Hondo for Senior Night and Saturday against Comfort.
