Medina ISD FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) students placed wreaths at the headstones of local veterans at Oak Rest Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 19, in honor of Wreaths Across America Day. They joined more than 2,557 participating locations across the country.
About 1.7 million live balsam wreaths, provided by donations and sponsors, were placed on the graves of all the local heroes laid to rest there, to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country, never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration. For centuries, fresh evergreens have been used as a symbol of honor and have served as a living tribute renewed annually. This year, the Medina FCCLA received enough sponsors to fully fund both the Medina Oak Rest Cemetery and West Prong Cemetery.
