Bandera ISD cancels school for remainder of week

After taking the day-to-day approach on whether or not to have school since Monday, Bandera ISD has lowered the gauntlet and called it for the rest of the week.
“Out of an abundance of caution and due to inclement winter weather, hazardous driving, power outages and busted water lines at some campuses, BISD schools and district facilities will be closed the remainder of the week, Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19,” a press release stated.
Bandera County offices will be closed for all non-essential personnel tomorrow, and Bandera City Hall remains closed until further notice.
Earlier today, a main water break shut down the water supply for city residents. The break was repaired in about three hours, however the city remains under a Boil Water Notice.
“Due to reduced pressure (below 20 psi) in the City of Bandera’s water system (ID No. 0100012), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Bandera’s public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions). To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has forecast a  very significant winter event through tomorrow with as much as half-an-inch of ice may accumulate overnight. A winter storm warning and winter weather advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday.
The final round of wintry precipitation is also forecast tonight, which could produce ice-snow accumulations ranging from a dusting to two inches. Welcome news comes Friday, when temperatures are expected to slowly warm into the weekend.
