The Latest at the Bandera Library

Top o’ the mornin’ to everyone! Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us here at the Bandera Library! The redbuds are blooming which means spring is only just around the corner.
This week, the library is pleased to announce we are recipients of a grant from the Native Plant Society of Texas’ Bring Back the Monarch program. The garden committee will be using the funds to purchase milkweed species that are unique to and thrive in Bandera County. Keep an eye out for chrysalises next year!
The library’s Board of Directors is working to install an all native and adapted plant garden that will be beautiful and educational. Plants included in the plan will be no-water and low-water species and will create a haven for butterflies and other pollinators. If you are interested in pitching in, garden workdays are scheduled regularly so call the library to be added to the list.
The featured title for this week’s new releases is the latest thriller by Harlan Coben called Win. Twenty years ago, Patricia Lockwood was abducted, and her wealthy family was brutally robbed. Patricia was locked away in a cabin in the woods for months until she was finally able to make an escape. Of the many valuables stolen on that fateful night was a painting by Johannes Vermeer and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. More than two decades later, NYPD calls in the FBI to help investigate a man found murdered in his penthouse apartment where the Vermeer hangs and the suitcase is found. Windsor Horne Lockwood III – or as his friends call him, Win – is baffled as to why these two items that once belonged to his family ended up in a murdered man’s home. He is even more surprised to learn that the man who kidnapped his cousin Patricia years ago is connected to a group of domestic terrorists who are still at large. Considering how much skin Win has in the game, he cannot wait for the FBI to solve this case.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
