Local animal rescue leads seizure of more than 70 animals after owner dies of tick-borne disease
This week, animal rescue group A Doggie 4 You led a large dog seizure of more than 70 dogs, a few cats, and two donkeys in Moore.
“While there Patricia Godkin, our executive director, called and asked me to contact the Bissell Pet Foundation to see if they would assist us with the overwhelming task which was before our rescue,” A Doggie 4 You Board Secretary Donna Witt said.
Cathy Bissell contacted Godkin on Tuesday and put a plan in action. The Humane Society of Tulsa came down to help with the seizure, forming a multi-agency rescue.
According to reports, a 78-year-old woman died from a tick-borne disease, leaving behind the animals that none of her family members were aware existed inside her two houses.
On Monday night, Godkin brought 13 of the dogs in greatest need of medical care to A Doggie 4 You. They were all treated for ticks which covered the property and the animals. Two dogs were taken to the Pipe Creek Animal Clinic for immediate evaluation. All the dogs have been vaccinated and treated for any tick-borne disease.
