BEC Foundation awards community grants

Two nonprofit organizations within the Bandera Electric Cooperative service territory recently received $5,000 in BEC Foundation grants for the first quarter grant cycle.
Hill Country Samaritans received a $2,500 grant to purchase backpacks and school supplies for their annual Back to School Bash. The event provides students of Bandera County with backpacks, school supplies, health services, haircuts, and more.
“We have seen the smiles of many hundreds of children as they received free backpacks full of needed school supplies for the upcoming school year,” said Bill Beedle, Hill Country Samaritans president.
“Our organization has had the consistent support of the BEC Foundation, who has been a major financial contributor to the success of this endeavor. As such, BEC has been, and continues to be, a huge blessing to the children and families of Bandera County. We are so thankful for the ongoing partnership and support.”
Kendall County Women’s Shelter received a $2,500 grant to renovate the children’s outdoor play area, add a canopy structure and make it handicap accessible.
“The goal of KCWS’s outdoor play area is to provide a safe place for children to engage in trauma-informed activities where they can learn positive coping and socialization skills,” said Hattie Allen, KCWS CEO.
The BEC Foundation is the philanthropic arm of BEC. Its mission is to support qualifying nonprofit organizations in its service area through charitable contributions with a focus on education, safety and overall concern for community.
The BEC Foundation is supported in part by BEC. However, the community is invited to contribute. Members can round up their bill to the nearest whole-dollar, select the BEC Foundation as their favorite charity on AmazonSmile, or donate at any time.
The BEC Foundation board awards grants based on its charitable giving guidelines and predetermined criteria and accepts grant applications on a quarterly basis. The next grant application deadline is June 30. For information and eligibility requirements, visit BanderaElectric.com/Giving.
