Optimist Club students of the year awarded
Luke Bitzkie and Rebecca Ellingson were named the John Slocum Optimist Club of Bandera Students of the Year, and were the winners of the Optimist Club 2020-21 scholarship.
Ellingson is an early graduate of Bandera High School, having attended three years. She was a member of the Academic Decathlon champion team, president of the BHS choir and member of the National Honor Society. She will attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah
Bitzkie was the Valedictorian for the graduating 2021-21 BHS class. He was the captain of the Academic Decathlon team. He was also a member of the BHS band, and was named second best tenor saxophone player int he state. He will attend Dallas Baptist University in the fall, where he will major in theological ministry. He hopes to pursue a career in vocational ministry and to run a charitable organization.
