The Latest at the Bandera Library

Lots going on at the Bandera Public Library. The Monthly Book Club meeting tomorrow at 10 a.m. on the back patio weather permitting. The group will be discussing “Dinner at Antoine’s” by Frances Parkinson Keyes. The book was originally published in 1948 and was a huge bestseller in its day. The story set in the famous New Orleans restaurant, Antoine’s, is a dark and glamorous mystery. Wealthy businessman Orson Foxworth is hosting a lavish dinner at Antoine’s for his niece Ruth. Ruth is in town for the Mardi Gras season and her uncle has decided to introduce to his glitzy circle of friends. It doesn’t take long for Ruth to notice undercurrents of tension between the dinner guests, and that tension ends in murder.
On Saturday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Monthly Book Fair will be hosted by the Friends of the Library. All books, DVDs and CDs are available by donation. Stock up on paperbacks for your next day at the coast or hanging out by the river. Your donation will go towards buying new books for the library.
Don’t forget the library will be closed on Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. On behalf of everyone here at the library, we hope you have a happy and safe holiday.
Local artist and author Michael P. Earney will be July’s Artist of the Month. Come by this month to see 20 of his beautiful paintings in our gallery. Earney is originally from England, and is currently residing in Austin. He has worked as a ceramist, art teacher, a documentary filmmaker and has been producing paintings of animal and plant life among other themes. More recently, Michael has produced several children and young adult books featuring his original paintings. The library will host an Art Gallery Opening and Book Signing on Friday, July 9, from 5 - 6 p.m. Come by to meet the artist, get a book signed and stay for a glass of wine.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
