This year, the Hill Country Samaritans are hosting two Back to School Bash events to cover the entire county better.
The Bash in Medina, which is meant to service Medina and Utopia students, will be Saturday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Arms of Hope, Medina Campus (aka Medina Children's Home).
The Bash in Lakehills, for Bandera ISD students, will be Sunday, Aug. 8, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., at the Lakehills Community Center.
Both are free and open to all public, private and homeschool students, pre-k through 12th grades. Students must be present to receive any items or services.
Last year, 247 cars entered the Drive-Thru Bash, and 525 backpacks full of back-to-school supplies were given away by more than 100 volunteers, who also handed out crafts, prizes, educational information and other items. This year, organizers are preparing to give away 950 backpacks.
Hill Country Samaritans is a 501c3 Christian non-profit, and has been in existence since 2018. The board and all of its members are volunteers, so each donation goes directly to fund the Back to School Bash.
Financial donations may be made through Paypal on the Hill Country Samaritans website (hillcountrysamaritans.org), and entire shopping packages and pledges are available for organizations and churches as well. Kelly Beedle is the HCS Back to School Bash coordinator. You may reach her at hcs.btsb@gmail.com.
