AMERICAN LEGION POST 410 will conduct a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37, in Lakehills, on Tuesday, July 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is invited. Email [email protected] for more information.

ALAMO RC&D, Senior Assistance Program, continues the Curbside Pantry, Senior Zoom Social Club, and Fun-n-Fitness every month.
Each senior household must pre-register at alamorcd.org. If you have trouble, text 210-548-9248 for assistance.
The next Food Pantry and Fans distribution will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2:30-4 p.m., at The Way Church, 7789 FM 1283. The pantry is now open; masks and distancing required. Call for more information.
Alamo RC&D seeks donations for the purchase of food. Donors can help on the website: alamorcd.org. The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit so all donations are tax deductible.

The ALAMO AREA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS, aka AACOG, will offer a Drive-Through Resource Fair at the Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283, on Thursday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. They invite all seniors, aged 60 years and older, to come by and learn about the various resources for senior citizens, veterans and their caregivers. Organizations represented include Alamo Regional Transit, ART, with information about their transportation services.

WESTERN HERITAGE COWBOY CHURCH is holding a School Supply Give-Away at the church, 7146 FM 1283, on Monday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m. First come, first served; and supplies are limited. For more information, call 830-535-6575.

The annual BACK TO SCHOOL BASH, sponsored by Hill Country Samaritans and Bandera ISD, will be held Sunday, August 8, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will happen at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37. It is free and open to all public, private and homeschool students, grades PK-12; students must be present to receive any goods or services. They are asking for donations to purchase backpacks, complete with school supplies, to hand out to kiddos. They want to be able to provide 950 backpacks and each one will cost $20. The LAKEHILLS COMMUNITY CENTER, 11225 PR 37, is now open for all kinds of events: Games, quilters, and exercise held weekly; Nagel Clinic twice a month on first and third Mondays, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m; Food Distribution, American Legion Post 410 teaching youth, bread making, community meal, family activity evening; community seminar and Center business meeting held monthly; and the annual Back to School bash and blood drive.

PIPE CREEK GENERAL STORE & DANCE HALL  will host their third Pipe Creek Market Day Fiesta on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located at 9878 Hwy. 16S in Pipe Creek, it will feature food, fun, shopping and live entertainment.

TRIPLE-H EQUITHERAPY will host the Magic of Horses Gala fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 - 10 p.m. The event will be held at the Pedrotti’s Ranch, 13715 FM 1560, Helotes. CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S JOB CORPS is taking applications for their next training session. Applications are due by Monday, August 23 and can be printed out online. Interviews will take place Aug. 25 and 26. Classes will begin Tuesday, Aug. 31 and continue through Thursday, November 18, with a graduation date of Friday, November 19.
Each session lasts 12 weeks, Tuesday through Thursday, with lunch provided, and is free to adult women, providing “a safe Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual, professional and personal growth,” according to the Job Corps mission statement.
The Job Corps would welcome additional teachers, sponsors, mentors and volunteers.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, serves home cooked meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. The funds raised support the Post for the benefit of the community.
The Post is open to the public from 3-9 p.m., Fridays through Wednesdays.

LAKE AND RIVER
On July 17, Medina Lake is at 34.8 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1026.60 feet, which is down 37.60 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 21.3 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.51 feet deep at the gage, after a rainfall of over two inches.
