This past week was our final week of the Summer Reading Program. On behalf of all of the library and our participants, we would like to thank and acknowledge our volunteers and guest readers who made this year’s program a wonderful success. Our guest readers include Mary Beth Wright, Jaleel Altakrouri and Catie Rickert from BEC, Debra Slate and Haflinger Express and Dennis Allyn. We look forward to seeing young readers next summer!
Thursday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., the Monthly Book Club is meeting in the Genealogy Room. The group is discussing the book “My Family and Other Animals” by Gerald Durrell. This family biography inspired the popular tv series on Masterpiece Theater called the “Durrells in Corfu.” After making a unanimous decision to abandon the dreary English weather, the Durrells sell their home and move to the Greek island of Corfu. When the family’s 10-year-old son decides to become a naturalist and begins bringing home all kinds of animals to home, delightful chaos and mishaps ensue. If you are interested in joining the Monthly Book Club, stop by the library to pick up a reading schedule.
Saturday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is the Friends of the Library Monthly Book Fair. After several very large donations of books, there is a great deal of new titles available. All books, CDs and DVDs are new or gently used, and everything is for sale by donation. There is still plenty of summer left and lots of great paperbacks to take to the beach, the pool or wherever you cool off.
Have you tried the new WorkForce Solutions kiosk at the library yet? The kiosk is located in the Artist of the Month Gallery and works like a secondary office for Workforce Solutions Alamo. The kiosk is available to complete intake forms and speak to a real live representative. No need to make an appointment anymore! Get connected to all the services WorkForce Solutions offers our community including help with work experience, career training, job placement and childcare solutions.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
