The annual BACK TO SCHOOL BASH, sponsored by Hill Country Samaritans and Bandera ISD, will be held Sunday, Aug. 8, from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. It will happen at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37. It is free and open to all public, private and homeschool students, grades PK-12; students must be present to receive any goods or services.

The LAKEHILLS COMMUNITY CENTER, 11225 PR 37, is open with many events: Games, quilting, and exercises are held weekly; Nagel Clinic arrives twice a month on first and third Mondays, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m; Food Distributions, American Legion Post 410 youth lessons, bread making, community meals, family activity evenings, community seminars and Center business meetings are held monthly; and the Back to School bash and blood drives occur annually.

PIPE CREEK GENERAL STORE & DANCE HALL  will host their third Pipe Creek Market Day Fiesta on Saturday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located at 9878 Hwy. 16S in Pipe Creek, it will feature food, fun, shopping and live entertainment, with an Hawaiian theme. Music provided by Tom Teboe & The River City Ramblers, with special guest Kadence Beckett. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

TRIPLE-H EQUITHERAPY will host the Magic of Horses Gala fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 - 10 p.m. The event will be held at the Pedrotti’s Ranch, 13715 FM 1560, Helotes. Sponsorships are still available. Funds raised will benefit Triple-H Equitherapy in Pipe Creek. Contact  Ginger at 830-388-2263 or [email protected] for more information.

CAJUN FESTIVAL will be held on Sept. 25, and will be dedicated to Bob Caswell, founder. For now the need is for volunteers to help prepare the foodstuffs. If you can help, contact Barbara Engel at 830-460-0600 or [email protected]; or call Sam Granberry at 830-688-2958 or Gary Cox at 210-885-6435.

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S JOB CORPS is taking applications for their next training session. Applications are due by Monday, Aug. 23 and can be printed out online. Interviews will take place Aug. 25 and 26. Classes will begin Tuesday, Aug. 31 and continue through Thursday, November 18, with a graduation date of Friday, Nov. 19.
Each session lasts 12 weeks, Tuesday through Thursday, with lunch provided, and is free to adult women, providing “a safe Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual, professional and personal growth,” according to the Job Corps mission statement.
The Job Corps would welcome additional teachers, sponsors, mentors and volunteers.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, serves home cooked meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. The funds raised support the Post for the benefit of the community.
The Post is open to the public every day except Thursdays, from 4 p.m. All are welcome.

LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 150 Ave. J in Lakehills, offers a free drive-through community meal, Bread of Life, every Monday, at 5:30 p.m.
In addition, the church has begun to offer a Drive-Thru Food Pantry every other Friday, starting July 23, from 10 a.m. to noon, or until the food runs out. Call 830-751-2404 for more information.

PIPE CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will hold their annual fundraising BBQ & Raffle on Sunday, Oct. 10. They are looking for sponsors, raffle donations, and booth vendors. LAKE AND RIVER
On Aug. 4, Medina Lake is at 34.2 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1026.04 feet, which is down 38.16 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 36.9 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.75 feet deep at the gage, after a rainfall of over two inches.
