The Latest at the Lakehills Area Library

By Dianna Landes
Lakehills Area Library Director

On Saturday, Oct. 2, from 3-5 p.m., in the Lakehills Area Library Meeting Room. we will honor Loy Ed Alanis by making her a Board Member Emeritus. This means that she will be a board member of the Lakehills Area Library for life, honoring her many years of service to our community by being a founding member of the library. Without her hard work and persistent efforts, we would not have the library that we have today. Please join us in honoring her at the party.
Halloween is just weeks away and the library is already getting ready for some spooky fun. If you would like to volunteer to hand out candy at the annual Halloween Track-or-Treat on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m., or would like to donate unopened bags of candy for the event, please come by the library or call us at 830-510-2777.
The library First Saturday book sales have resumed. Our next sale is Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hardbacks for only $1.50, children's books and soft covers are $.50! All money raised by our book sales goes to fund library programs and materials.
Book club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m., at the library. On Oct. 11, we will discuss The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth
A free yoga class for all ages is happening every Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Lakehills Library Meeting Room. Please bring a mat and water. Space is limited so we ask that you sign up with the library by calling 830-510-2777 or email Dianna at lakehillslibrary@gmail.com.
Market Day is coming in November and we still have plenty of booths for rent. Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., local vendors of handmade and craft items, jewelry, food and more will be at the library to help you get your holiday shopping done early and locally. Indoor booths and back porch booths are $25 and booths in the yard behind the library are $20. We do require that all vendors have a Tax ID number as required by the Texas State Comptroller.
Preschool story time has begun. Every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m., the kids will be entertained by Miss Dianna reading books, and they will get to sing songs and make preschool crafts designed to teach basic skills so that they are school ready. Children of all ages are invited to join us. Weather permitting, we will be hosting our story time outdoors on our back porch.
The library provides access to FamilySearch and Ancestry with a library card. You can access Ancestry at home by logging into our catalog and FamilySearch has some documents that can only be viewed at a FamilySearch Library, which Lakehills Library is. The library also offers space and laptops for use by anyone who would like to join a Genealogy club. We are currently looking for anyone interested in meeting to share or learn information about how to search for documents to grow their family tree. Please contact the library if you are interested.
The Lakehills Area Library is at 7200 FM 1283. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
