Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

September is coming to a close, and the autumn season is in full swing. The library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest is still going on. Children and teens can pick up a pumpkin at the library or use one at home and decorate it to look like a favorite book character. Decorated pumpkins are due by Friday, Oct. 15. Voting for the best pumpkin will begin online and in person. Submit your pumpkin today.
Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 29, the library will host Weekly Game Night for folks aged 13 and up. The group will meet from 3 - 6 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room to play board games, card games and role-playing games. Come by and be ready to have fun.
It’s officially Porch-Sittin’ Weather so come by to stock up on great reads at the Monthly Book Fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. This Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the fair will feature books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles. Everything is available by donation and all items are new or gently used. The proceeds go to support the purchase of new books for the library.
Starting Oct. 1, the library will begin a new program for the holiday season. While the holidays are fun and festive, they can also be quite exhausting. Between parties and presents and remembering to buy cookies for your kid’s class, things can get overwhelming quickly. For each month of the holiday season, the library will be giving away Self-Care Kits. The kits include items that have been shown to greatly reduce stress and can help get you through the holiday season. These include a breathing exercise or mediation, Epsom salts for a good soak, tea bags and a small treat, and a thematic baking recipe. The kits are designed to make it easy for you to remember to take care of yourself along with all the other things you do.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
