After a quiet year due to pandemic concerns, the Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County held their first public fundraising event at their Teen Center on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event celebrated 20 years of the many accomplishments of local youth in Bandera and surrounding county townships. The anniversary event included live music, a community fair, vendor booths, games, a BBQ pulled pork dinner, a “corn-hole” tournament, as well as a silent auction and presentations by local youth and many other fun activities.
“It was so great to see the community pull together and really support the mission of our local Boys & Girls Club. The money we raised will go to help support the programs as well as the supplies we use for our daily activities that motivate our Bandera youth to succeed. We so appreciate every single donation of time and volunteering, as well as the support of the many vendors and businesses that provided items or services for our auction. This has been by far one of our most successful fundraisers and we appreciate that the Bandera Community is as invested in our youth as we are,”BGC CEO Amy Ouellette said.
“With the help of our volunteers, our Board of Directors, as well as our vendors and business partners, but most importantly, the members of the community, we pulled off a highly successful fundraiser. After a very challenging 2020, the entire county got involved and it showed in the results. We raised more than $20,100 for local programs that benefit our youth. Seeing the youth and the people attending the event laughing and having a good time together made it all worth it. There is simply no way that this could have happened without the great teamwork of everyone, including
our volunteers, our staff and the community at large. A big thanks to everyone involved,” Club Finance Director and Board Member Ron Clarke said.
Recently, the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors expanded and well represents the community it serves. William “Joey” Bess, the former American Legion Texas district commander, serves as president; Nancy Blomeyer-Webb, a Bandera County relationship coaching psychologist, serves as secretary; and Clarke, a retired legal investigator and non-profit specialist, serves as treasurer. Rounding out the board as directors are Dan McNeil, a local attorney; Ron Gherman, well-known in local youth sports activities and marketing specialist and analyst; Bobby Lalanne, vice principal of Bandera Middle School; Louis Moreno, a patrol sergeant with the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office; and James Hernandez, a local media marketing specialist. In addition, other community members serve as honorary board members. They include Dennis Jerome, a past board member; Dianna Condry, past-president; Dan Anderson, financial planner and founder; and Anne Cassidy, also an original founder.
