About 60 family, friends, past and current staff, and volunteers, welcomed new Board Member Emeritus Loy Ed Alanis during a celebration given by the Lakehills Area Library to honor her on Oct. 2. Area residents expressed their appreciation for Alanis as one of the founders of the library, who has constantly remained on the board serving our community.
“The library is the best thing I’ve done in my life and I’m proud of its many accomplishments in the community,” Alanis said.
Alanis is one of the seven founders of the library. Of the seven, she is the third to receive this honor. Reich has been Board Member Emeritus for quite some time. Olga Bradford was granted the designation in 2015. The remaining founders, who did not stay on the board, were Bobbie Jo Basinger, Jean Cress, Jo Stovall, and Bradford’s husband Wilbur.
The seven formed the first board in 1997, when they each chipped in $10 to open an account. They began a massive fund raising campaign, acquired some grants along the way, received a donation of land from Eddy Leibold, and officially opened the current library in 2003.
Dianna Landes has been the Library Director since 2013 and she is committed to serving the Lakehills and Pipe Creek communities. She is ably assisted by Melissa Brambila and Isabela De La Cruz, along with many volunteers who are eager to assist in many ways.
The Lakehills Area Library is open on Mondays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They can be reached at 830-751-2777 and their website is lakehillslibrary.org. They can also be followed on Facebook.
