Lakehills Thanksgiving Dinner a huge success

The 10th annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner was packed with people who were grateful for all their many blessings. The meal was opened with a prayer of thanks by Hill Country Samaritans President Bill Beedle, accompanied by his wife Kelly Beedle, in the Lakehills Community Center on Thanksgiving Day.
The Hill Country Samaritans sponsored the event again this year. The non-profit organization has filled in for the original organizers, Tony and Maria Quesada. Tony had been in poor health for some time and he went to be with our Lord in January. Maria is with her family now.
Every year more than 300 people are served turkey with all the trimmings, including drink and dessert. All the while a local band plays what Beedle calls “background music.”
This year the band started with musicians Andrew Hurlin on the drums; James Hurlin, Christian Hurlin and Ace Groot on guitars; and Bill Beedle on the banjo. The music was primarily gospel, easy on the ears, and soothing to the soul.
The meal consisted of perfectly done turkey, yams, fruit salad, dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy. Many homemade desserts were available to choose from: pies, cakes, and brownies. Salad fixings were also offered. All the food was prepared on site by volunteers.
Beedle expressed gratitude for the Medina Lake Betterment Association for the donated use of the Center and to all the volunteers who set up, cooked, and who would clean up.
The Samaritans have two more events coming up. The Community Christmas Choirs will perform in the Lakehills United Methodist Church on Dec. 12, at 3 p.m.
Bethlehem Under the Stars will be held at the Lakehills Community Center on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18, from 5:30 to *:30 p.m.
