Generosity
By Mikie Baker
The Bandera Prophet
I hope you and yours had a delightful Thanksgiving enjoying your family and friends this year. We certainly did and I was struck at how grateful I am for a simple hug, a gathering of many and an extra piece of pumpkin pie. It’s been a rocky road the past two years, but I feel we are inching our way back to normal.
And now it’s time to turn to the Christmas holidays as Macy’s is always quick to remind us on Thanksgiving morning. I must say that exchanging presents is beginning to lose its luster as we all have way too much of everything anyway. Miracles and the reason for the season don’t really have much to do with the latest iPhone under the tree.
In that spirit, I’d like to remind each of you that there are people out there who don’t have too much. They don’t have too much food, too much money or too much to look forward to. Here in Bandera County, we have many fine nonprofit organizations that work day in and day out 365 days a year to help those in our community that need a hand.
When you do your spending this year, please think of these fine organizations that make sure children are fed and cared for, those that need a helping hand so they can get through the week, and the ones that make sure no senior is left hungry and lonely in their final years.
Every one of these organizations can always use more – help by volunteering, donating used items or simply writing a check so they can get up and do it again tomorrow.
Well enough of that. Gird your loins – the season is upon us. Just keep that giving spirit in mind as you celebrate the season.
No worries, I’ll be back to silly by next week. Happy Holidays and I’m grateful for each and every one of you, dear readers!
