Trailriders prepare for Feb. 4 annual trek
By Jeanne Beauxbeannes
Cowboy Capitol Trail Rider
There was a time... way back in the day...that travelling was by horses and wagons, when this Hill Country landscape was traversed on horseback 20 miles a day, more or less. After settling in to a safe camp and good grub and tales of the day’s trails, daylight would come and travelers would mount up and head out for the next day’s adventure.
Oh, but wait.. this still exist?! Yes! Since 1969, Cowboy Capitol Trail Riders have embarked on its week-long ride to San Antonio to kick off the stock show and rodeo.
This year’s dates are Feb. 4-12.
It’s never easy to navigate the logistics of roadways, bridges and traffic. This time of year can bring us rain and cold and wind, maybe even some of that stuff that we Texans around here seldom see .... snow. Or maybe unseasonably hot temperatures Whatever the weather.. we ride. We ride to carry on the tradition of trailriding.
Come ride with us and experience this Old West tradition. If interested in joining us, call Trail Boss Dan Searcy at 210-265-7052.
