Spring Break Family Fun at Frontier Times Museum

By Rebecca Norton
Executive Director, Frontier Times Museum

Spring Break family fun can be found in Bandera. The Frontier Times Museum is offering lots of family activities over Spring Break, March 9-11 and March 14 - 18.  The museum will offer special daily activities in addition to the museum’s regular activities like the Frontier Scavenger Hunt and the Discovery Corral children’s play area.
The Frontier Times Museum is one of the oldest history museums in Texas, with an “eclectic and eccentric” collection of art and treasures gathered over 85 years. On display are fossils, old-time photos, pioneer relics, and curiosities such as a shrunken head and a two-faced goat. The museum also honors the American cowboy with displays of local rodeo champions and an extensive collection of barbed wire and western hats.
For the week of Spring Break, they are adding daily activities that can be enjoyed with regular admission. The schedule includes famed storyteller Lee Haile presenting antique toys and games on March 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Wednesday, March 16, Jennifer Rimmrichter of Sheep Walk Wool and Works will give demonstrations on how to make wool with spinning wheels. Be a Cowboy Day on Friday, March 18, will feature a real live chuckwagon with Kelly Scott making peach cobbler and cowboy activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fun activities that are being offered every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. are make your own fossils, plant a mini egg carton garden, rock painting, making photographs with only the sun, and panning for gold.
The museum is also partnering with the Bandera Natural History Museum in offering museum bucks that can be used for discounted tickets at each museum. Visit one museum and receive one museum dollar per person that can be used at the other museum.  Need a ride to the next museum? Wes Hatch will offer free wagon rides to get you from one museum to the other museum every day from March 14 to March 18, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
All activities are included with regular museum admission.  For details and times, visit www.frontiertimesmuseum.org or visit the museum’s Facebook page. The Frontier Times Museum is located at 510 13th Street.
