Bandera County commissioners have begun the search for the next veteran service officer, after formally accepting the resignation of VSO Dennis Birchall, who submitted his letter of resignation, effective May 15.
“I’m very sorry to him go, he’s done a good job,” County Judge Richard Evans said.
The county is currently accepting applications for the VSO position, through April 27. American Legion Post 157 Commander Susan Junker said Birchall has fielded inquiries from veterans potentially interested in applying for the job.
“He has had at least two people come by his office,” Junker said.
VSOs assist veterans and their families in many ways, advising them on the benefits available from federal, state and county resources, assisting with the completion and filing of benefit claims, and representing individuals in VA hearings.
“I truly thank Dennis for what he’s done,” Pct. 4 Commissioner Jody Rutherford said.
