On June 11, from noon to 6 p.m., Women at the Well community ministry is planning to host its first annual Community Block Party.
Spearheaded by Kimberly “Kimmy” Williams, Betheny Sheldon-Snyder and Cristie Akin, the concept is “a street party for people to enjoy live music and fellowship.”
“The main objective of the Block Party is to encourage a community gathering in which neighbors can gather and become acquainted with one other,” Williams said. “At this Community Block Party, we will challenge every neighborhood to take this plan back to their neighborhood and host a block party or other event where neighbors can meet one another. This will be called ‘The Neighborhood Challenge-Unity in the Community.’”
Some of the amenities needed include a first aid station (volunteers and medical supplies); food (hot dogs, buns, condiments, chips, waters, and sodas to sell for $1 each); volunteers to oversee and monitor scheduled games (three-legged races; kids’ fishing game; kids water balloon toss; toddlers’ duck pond; sack race); port-a-potties; trash cans; and canopies.
Williams, Sheldon-Snyder and Akin are also challenging the Bandera Marshal’s Office and the Bandera Fire Department to face off in a tug-of-war contest.
“Every challenging team must post who they are challenging and pay $50 for 10 contestants (two five-person teams),” Williams said.
The event will take place at 1103 Maple Street, Bandera. Lawn chairs and picnic baskets welcome. To register, volunteer or donate, text 970-560-7295, or go online at facebook.com/groups/bandera
