Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

Summertime and the reading’s easy. This week the Bandera Library’s Summer Reading Programs are now underway! For kids ages 5 to 12, we have our weekly reading program designed to encourage kids to maintain their reading level throughout the summer months.
On Tuesdays from 10 - 11:30 a.m., through July 12, we will meet to select the week’s reading, listen to a guest reader, participate in the activities and then get to take home a small snack. This year we have several demonstrations including a visit from Texas Parks and Wildlife fishing instructor Arlyne Martinez who will give a fishing lesson to the kids. We also will host The Haflinger Express for a wagon ride through town. Space is limited, so be sure to register your kiddos asap. When registering your child or grandchild, be sure to let the library staff know if there are any weeks you will not be able to attend.
For adults and teens, we have the Summer Reading Challenge themed “Around the World,” featuring titles the library has that are set in different countries. The patron who reads the most titles from this list from now until Aug. 31 will win a $20 gift card. You can download the reading log from our website at https://banderacountylibrary.org/summer-2022 or pick on up from the library the next time you are in town.
Thursday, June 9, at 5:30 p.m., is the first in our guest lecture series in collaboration with the Frontier Times Museum. Museum Director Rebecca Norton, will present “Hollywood Cowboy: Hollywood Myths and Traildriving Truths,” which will separate fact from fiction in the history of the cowboy. Hope you can join us!
Our watercolor class is still meeting on Mondays, at 10 a.m., in the Downstairs Meeting Room. When the weather is permitting, they will also meet at the Bandera City park and paint under the beautiful cypress trees. The group’s work is currently on display in the Artist of the Month Gallery. Stop by and take a look at these wonderful pieces painted by local artists.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website at www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
