By Dianna Landes
Lakehills Area Library Director
Summer Reading is here! The Lakehills Area Library will have summer reading programs every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., through Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Each week a different performer or craft will be offered free of charge to children of all ages, thanks to a $3,016 grant from the Bandera Electric Cooperative Foundation. The library will have a morning show each week at the library and an afternoon show at the Hill Country Elementary Boys and Girls Club to encourage children to read all summer long.
Schedule:
June 8: The Magic of Reading Magic Show with Richard Blake
June 15: A visit from San Antonio Zoo Animal Ambassadors Team
June 22: Balloon Bending and Storytelling with Mark Fuller
June 29: Crafting paper lantern sea creatures
July 6: Collage Crafting and Art Show
July 13: Happy Tails Entertainment
July 20: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Ranger Visit
July 27: Socktapus Crafting
Aug. 3: Pirates! A visit from sword fighting pirates and a pirate party (come dressed as a pirate if you wish)
The first Saturday in July (July 2) the library will have its monthly book sale. In addition to the books we have for sale every day, we have a book barn that will be open as well. Our summer special is $6 for a bag of books of your choice.
On Friday, June 24, at 11 a.m., the library will offer a class on Staying Safe Online in the library meeting room. This free class is part of our technology lecture/workshop series designed for Seniors, but people of any age are welcome to participate. Each session is approximately an hour and we would love suggestions as to what people need to learn as far as computers, technology, the internet, smart phones, tablets etc. are concerned. Please let us know what you want and we will do our best to provide it.
On Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m., Joy Fisher-Hein will teach a class at the library on organic gardening. She is a master gardener (as well as being the artist currently on display at the library) and will be here to help you get your garden going or to learn more about how to make it more organic.
Yoga with Jessica every Tuesday and Thursday morning, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., in the Lakehills Library Meeting Room. The class is for all ages, and free. Please bring a mat and water.
Children's storytime is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Come to enjoy preschool-aged crafts, songs and stories.
