Dustin Vernor named new chief appraiser

The Board of Directors of Bandera Central Appraisal District met June 10 to approve the hiring of Dustin Vernor who will head the local appraisal district. Vernor and his family will relocate from the Denton area where he has headed the Business Personal Property department.
“We are very pleased that Mr. Vernor has accepted our offer and the job and can begin work very soon. We feel he will be a good fit for the district having worked here before and lived in our area,” Board Chairman Bo Mansfield said,
Vernor is walking into the district at a time where protests are very active again this year as the real estate market continues to surge. Over 3,000 protests have been filed so far this year and more are expected before the deadline.
“My focus, in the various districts where I have worked, is always on serving the public. I am pleased that Mr. Davis emphasized that with the staff, and I will continue to work toward excellence in customer service at every turn,” Vernor said.
Vernor graduated from Nueces Canyon High School and attended college at Texas A&M University, Kingsville earning his degree in Economics. After leaving Bandera the first time, he attended nursing school and became a licensed surgical nurse but decided later to go back into the appraisal field.
Vernor managed a staff of 10 in Denton so the numbers of personnel in Bandera will be very similar to what he supervised there. He has also worked as a commercial appraiser and a residential appraiser in his career and is very familiar with the software used by the appraisal district.
Vernor is married to his wife of 20 years, Bethany, and he has two children: a grown son, Braxton, who is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys hunting and fishing; and a daughter, Katy, who plans to finish her high school career at Utopia, the school where she started a number of years ago.
“I was born in Kerrville and grew up right here in the Texas Hill Country. This seems like a move back home for us,” Vernor said. “We hope this will be a place where we spend many years and make many friends.”
