Store opening set for this Monday

If you have noticed a flurry of activity at the corner of Highway 16 S. and Polly Peak in the past few weeks, the reason is Cross Roads Valero C-Store and Drive In is getting ready for business.
Bought by Terry and Alice Word, and Jerrett and Megan Lamb in December of 2020, the now totally refurbished store has lain dormant since and through a string of unforeseen events, CoVid, Snowmaggedon and supply issues for the outside remodeling, the opening has been delayed for the past year and a half.
All the hard work will pay off as the store will have their soft opening on Monday, Aug. 29, at 6 a.m., with free coffee for the first 50 customers.
Until the official grand opening date, store hours will be 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., seven days a week.
After the grand opening, hopefully by the Labor Day weekend and which is contingent on the receipt of their Beer and Wine license, late night hours will extend until midnight.
There will be store specials to be announced later for the grand opening.
A third-party management company, Retail Management Inc., has been contracted to facilitate employment, financials and payroll for the store with all employees being local residents.
Valero, the world’s largest independent refiner, came in early 2021 and fuel has been available for credit and debit cards outside and now customers will also be able to pay inside with cash, credit or debit cards as well.
In addition to the external updates that had already been completed, the Interior has been completely redone as well. A new non-slip floor coating, paint, updated fixtures, renovated restrooms and shelving are the most noticeable things.
The Cross Roads carwash has also been updated with new vending machines and new vacuum stations under the new roofover that replaced the one taken out by a tractor trailer a few months ago.
The store opening will be welcomed by visitors and local residents as they will be able to pick up those snacks, drinks, odds and ends and fuel up all in a single stop.
