Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

We are counting down to Halloween! The library’s children’s book drive is going on during the month of October. These books will be given to trick-or-treaters at the annual Halloween event, Nightmare on Maple Street. Oct. 29 is the last day to bring any donations of gently used or new books for kids up to teens. We still have a few Halloween-themed Holiday Self-Care Kits left so please pick one up the next time you visit the library. These kits are full of easy, inexpensive ways to slow down during this fast-paced time of the year.
This Friday, Oct. 21, is the last day to see the special exhibition organized by Ukrainian San Antonio currently on view in the Artist of the Month Gallery. These pieces tell the story of the Holodomor, a man-made famine genocide in Ukraine 90 years ago.
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the Bandera County Gardeners will meet in the Downstairs Meeting Room at 4:30 p.m. This group of local gardeners meets monthly to have a learning session and catch up on what is going on in their gardens. The Texas Hill Country can be a challenging place to garden so if you have any questions about what’s going on in your garden, or if you simply want to connect with other local green thumbs, come on by!
Thursday nights are Family Reading Night at the Bandera Library. Our newest program at the library gives families time and space to read one-on-one without the distractions at home like our computers, TVs or the sink full of dishes. Just come by with your own reads or you can borrow one of the children’s books the library has available. There are books for every reading level. We are also still looking for more volunteers to read to the kids. If you would like to join the effort to build up Bandera’s childhood literacy, please contact the library.
Election day is rapidly approaching. Be prepared and informed when you walk into the poll booth by reading the League of Women Voters non-partisan Voter Guides. The library has copies in English and Spanish. Stop by the library to pick up a hard copy or contact the library to have the digital file emailed to you.
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
