Lady Bulldog Basketball Report
By Alex Oyola
BHS Girls Varsity Head Coach
The last week for the Bandera Lady Bulldogs has been eventful, playing six games in six days with five of those in tournament play.
We went 2-3 in the Poteet tourney, losing 40-34 in the Consolation Championship game against Eagle Pass Winn, a 5A program.
Other games in the tournament include a 45-39 loss to 19th ranked Orange Grove, a 47-44 loss to Charlotte and wins over Winn by 15, (50-35) and over Dilley by 33 (48-15).
The girls played hard and overcame slow starts to challenge every team. They are learning that defense matters and are stepping up to the challenge of getting crucial stops when needed.
Tuesday evening, we hosted a tough, well coached Marion team. We struggled in the first half to score and trailed 25-15 at the half.
These girls don’t know the meaning of quit. In the second half, the ball began to fall for the us, outscoring Marion, 33-19 for a 48-44 win and remain undefeated at home.
The highlight of the evening was solid defensive play and rebounding Marion in the second half.
Playing with true heart and soul, I couldn't be prouder of them.
In those last six games, we are averaging 44 points, 41 rebounds, six assists and 11 steals.
The JV showed great resilience against Marion. Our Lady Bulldogs led for the majority of the game, but Marion took the lead late in the fourth. We had key defensive stops to force overtime and we continued with intensity on the defensive side, resulting in a 40-37 overtime victory.
The freshman team played their first game of the year and played hard the entire game, losing by a 32-27 score. That score does not reflect the fight and determination they played with in each quarter.
We will host YWLA on Tuesday, Dec. 13, with both games in the BHS main gym.
The combined freshman/JV game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity will immediately follow.
We are hoping to have a full house supporting these athletes. Thank you all for your support.
