Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
As a reminder, the library will be closed in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, Feb. 20. We will reopen at 9 a.m. the following day. Have a happy and safe holiday, folks!
February is Black History Month and it’s not too late to check out a book on our featured wall. Each title is by a black author and shows the broad scope of literary contributions black authors have had on American literature. Stop by and check out a book today!
If you like some surprises, be sure to stop by the Blind Date with a Book display available until Saturday, Feb. 25. Books are wrapped with only a small description of the title hidden inside. It is a great way to broaden your reading list and bust out of any reading ruts you might have found yourself in.
Thursday, Feb. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, stop by the library to get all of your Medicaid and CHIP questions answered. Edmundo Cardoza from AETNA, who services Medicaid and CHIP in the state of Texas, will be here to help you get registered for benefits or answer any questions you might have about your existing coverage.
Save the Date for March 3, Evening with An Author Jan Sikes. Her books, titled “Ghostly Interference”, “Jagged Feathers” and “Saddled Hearts”. Sikes will be here from 6 - 8 p.m. Sikes’ visit will celebrate the release of the third installment of her White Rune Series. The first book, “Ghostly Interference” follows two troubled souls, Jag Peters who has recently returned from a tour of duty and Rena Jett, a woman who is recently lost her brother and is still reeling from the heartbreak. Jag has returned home seeking only for peace and quiet in his life, and with a not altogether welcome ability to see ghosts. Rena initially rejects Jag’s peace offering despite being attracted to him. Her brother’s final gift to her before his passing was a magical white stone carved with a rune meaning “happily ever after.” It is the ghost of this beloved brother that Jag claims to see. Come by the library to meet Jan Sikes, hear about her writing process and pick up a copy of her books. Light refreshments will be served.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@Bandera County Library), Instagram, TikTok (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
